Article: skinimalism

Surely if you like the world of beauty you have heard of this new trend in skin care which is known as cutaneous Minimalism or "Skinimalism".

This is an alternative to the 10-step routine that is based on going back to basics, using as few products as possible and achieving excellent results for your skin.

Skinimalism has many benefits, but the main ones are:

  • It is a cheaper option
  • Sustainable with the planet
  • Tailored result for healthier skin

Let's be honest, we have less and less time and we need products whose mission is to provide us with specific care without the need to use different cosmetics for a simple and effective routine.

Skinimalism has come to stay for its simplicity, for its "less is more" and for providing us with specific care products. It helps us to have more consistency in our routine knowing that in a few minutes we can obtain the same results and that even with little time in the morning or at night, we can take care of our skin and provide it with specific care.

Of course, you can always do your 10-step routine or a more complete routine once or twice a week, taking advantage of the weekend to rest your skin with a mask and a good exfoliation. Being the perfect complement to your daily routine.

Here we leave you the steps for a basic routine :

1. Cleaner

The first step in any routine should be cleaning. Removes dirt, excess oil and impurities that can clog pores, which can lead to breakouts. Sleeping with makeup on is also not a good idea, as it can cause undesirable pimples and skin congestion. You should clean your face twice a day, that is, in the morning and in the evening.

What type of cleaner to choose?

Everyone loves that squeaky-clean feeling we get after cleaning. Therefore, you should use a gentle cleanser that provides a moisturizing feel after cleansing.

You should clean your face for 45-60 seconds and then dry it with a facial towel that you have reserved for your face.

If you have dry skin use a cream or oil based cleanser, combination and oily skin should use a foaming cleanser and normal skin is free to choose whatever type of cleanser they feel best with.

2. Exfoliation Serum Treatment

Our skin is a very intelligent organ, it has the power to exfoliate dead skin cells by itself. Exfoliation is the next step in our skin care routine, we use chemical or physical exfoliants to get rid of all the impurities and dirt on our skin. Physical exfoliation basically means using physical exfoliants to get rid of dead skin, while chemical exfoliation means using acids to exfoliate. Chemical peeling is not as scary as it sounds, sometimes it is gentler than physical peeling as it does not rub your skin. It is advised not to exfoliate more than twice a week and there are different exfoliants for different skin types. Dry skin types should use AHA ie lactic acid or glycolic acid to exfoliate, oily/combination and acne prone skin can use BHA ie salicylic acid to exfoliate.

Serums are concentrated formulations that target a specific concern. We have different serums aimed at brightening our skin, reducing hyperpigmentation, reducing expression lines and acne. Serums can be incorporated into your skincare routine, but it's definitely not essential. "It's good to have actives in your routine, but it's not an essential step," according to experts.

3. Moisturizing

Hydration is an important step in any facial routine. We've all heard that if you have oily skin, you shouldn't apply moisturizer. But that is not true, you should never skip this important step because it forces your skin to produce more oil due to that lack of moisture, causing the opposite effect, creating a sensation of an oilier face. There are many different moisturizers, dry skin should use a cream based moisturizer and oily and combination skin should use gel based moisturizers. Normal skin types can choose any product.

4. Sunscreen

This is possibly the most important step in the routine.Any product or routine will be ineffective without the use of a sunscreen. It must provide you with protection against UVA and UVB rays, it must also have an SPF of more than 30. Sunscreen is a non-negotiable part of your day routine and protects you from a lot of damage.
